An article tells you how to install and construct oversized rock slabs?

Release time:2024-12-12click:0

Stone slab is made of natural stone and inorganic clay fired in a special kiln. It is currently the world's thinnest, ultra-light, ultra-high temperature resistant, and extremely low water absorption porcelain decorative panel. It is used in construction/ Widely used in interior decoration.

The specifications of rock slabs range from 1200×2400mm to 1600×3200mm, which are common sizes on the market. The installation process requirements for oversized rock slabs are relatively much higher.

Next, let’s talk about the installation process of rock slabs.

For walls below 2.4m, it is suitable to use metal corner screws + glue; for walls over 2.4m, dry hanging is recommended for safety reasons.

Add stainless steel corner pieces to the rock slab. After the adhesive is laid on the wall, use an electric drill to fix metal screws on the holes of the stainless steel corner pieces on the rock slab to achieve a double stabilization effect.

According to on-site implementationConduct a sticking test according to the working conditions, and combine it with the manufacturer’s professional advice. Other construction methods can also be used, which vary depending on the specific project:

(Wall practices)

Aluminum honeycomb composite can mainly enhance the bending resistance and connectability of rock slabs, and can significantly reduce the weight of large-sized slabs. The dry-hanging installation is similar to the dry-hanging of ordinary stone.

Slate Adhesive
(Ground practices, recommended practices by rock slab installation units)

Adhesives are commonly used in rock slab floor construction. Manufacturers recommend the use of special rock slab installation equipment and tools. Adhesive products with pictures can effectively solve problems such as hollowing of rock slabs and unstable installation.

Large rock slab handling

Stone slab paving process: base treatment → elastic line division → adhesive preparation → adhesive construction → large rock slab back coating → large rock slab paving → vibrating and leveling → leveling device assists in adjusting the flatness → surface cleaning and protection → Caulking

Base surface treatment: Remove floating dust from the base layer thoroughly to avoid affecting the adhesion of the tile adhesive.

Prepare tile adhesive: Mix tile adhesive and water at a ratio of 4:1, stir with a gray spoon until evenly moistened, with no obvious lumps or paste-like agglomerations. Let the stirred slurry sit for 5-10 minutes before stirring again. Stir for 1-2 minutes before use.

Apply tile adhesive: Spread a layer of tile adhesive evenly on the ground to form a semi-dry layer. Use tile adhesive again to fill in the uneven areas on the surface with a thickness of about 0.5CM. Under appropriate conditions, the tile adhesive can be evenly applied at the same time. The floor is applied on the back of the tiles, and the tile glue is required to be applied fully.

Transportation and paving: Use a three-hole glass suction tool to lift the large slab horizontally and move it to the construction position, and place it on the laid tile glue base. At least two workers are required to carry it. For larger areas, a mobile frame is required to carry it.

Smooth and compact: Lay the rock slabs flatly on the base layer, and tap the rock slabs firmly with a rubber hammer. Use a rubber mallet to flatten the tile surface and measure with a ruler to ensure the tiles are laid levelly.

Leveling treatment: Around the edge of the positioned large board, insert the leveler base every 60cm or so. After checking the leveling, insert the leveling wedge and clamp the leveler, adjust the surface flatness of the adjacent large boards, and move the large boards The gap is adjusted to about 2mm to facilitate subsequent seam sealant treatment.

Empty drum inspection: One hour after paving, you can tap the brick surface with a small hammer to check whether there is hollowing. Caulking construction can be carried out 24 hours after the paving construction is completed.

Slab surface cleaning: 24 hours after the paving construction is completed, clean the leveler and perform joint filling construction. The joints should be filled with flexible or elastic materials. After the caulking agent is cured, use cleaning wool to clean off excess curing agent to keep the board surface clean.
